Vote No On Proposition 32 – It is “a fraud to end all frauds.”

The Los Angeles Times calls Proposition 32 “a fraud to end all frauds”. While disguising itself as a “payroll protection act” that will affect everyone, its intent is clearly to rob organized labor of it’s voice and to give corporate cronies unlimited ability to buy influence within the State of California. While restricting the ability of Unions to raise money through VOLUNTARY payroll deductions for Union PACs (such as DRIVE) to help support legislation and legislators that are friendly to labor, there are numerous loopholes for Corporations to avoid these same restrictions. Under Proposition 32, a Union member would not be allowed to contribute

through voluntary payroll deductions. That means that Union would rely on members writing individual monthly checks to PACs such as DRIVE, while Corporations can simply dig into any profits or company resources they have in UNLIMITED amounts to influence anti-labor legislation or legislators without answering to anyone.

They say that the definition of insanity is to continue to do the same thing over and over and expect a different result. This type of deceptive legislation was defeated twice by California voters since 1996. However, this time, it comes in a different deceptive wrapper with even more disastrous consequences. Can you guess who is the biggest supporter of this proposition?

The Koch brothers of Wisconsin. They have contributed over $4 million dollars to influence the passage of this awful legislation. Ask yourself why big corporate, anti-union, and out-of-state moneybags want to convince you to support a California proposition. It is clear that EVERY major labor organization is against Proposition 32. The goal of corporate support is to extend the damage of this ill- conceived proposition beyond California and, by weakening the Labor voice as this proposition does, opens the door to attacks of bargaining rights in the future.

Who are the Koch brothers? Check out a short video from “Koch Brothers Exposed.”

It is not enough to just vote against this proposition. Get informed about this legislation and speak up to everyone you come in contact with. Talk to your friends, relatives, and anyone you meet as you go about your day. It is important to talk to other labor associates, but just as important to people outside of Labor. Ask them if they are happy with the results of the Supreme Court ruling on Citizens United that has literally moved the influx of huge sums of Corporate money to buy votes and influence.  Proposition 32 is Citizens United on steroids and will ultimately force Californians to deal with the onslaught of corporate cash and power brokers that want to buy their way into your livelihood. There will be opportunities to listen to representatives of labor explain in further detail the damage Proposition 32 will cause. LISTEN AND PASS IT ALONG!
