Local 848 Statement on the Sysco Los Angeles Strike
Eric Tate, Secretary-Treasurer
On Sunday October 11, 2026, Teamsters Local 630 and 848 went on strike against Sysco Foods in Los Angeles. Both Unions are disappointed the Company has decided to take a strike over what should have been a great ending to a cooperative and amicable negotiation.
The strike is not over economics of any kind (Wages, Healthcare or Benefits) in fact, for the first time in my career as a Union member, business representative or Principal Officer has there been a strike over something the Company wants. THAT IS CORRECT!! The Unions are willing to accept or have already accepted the Company’s offer minus language proposed by the Company that was not in the previous 10 contracts. The Unions are asking the Company to agree to the language that has been in the previous 10 contracts and get these workers back on the job servicing your customers before they leave to your competitors.
Obviously, Sysco is embarrassed about the position they have put themselves in because they are sending letters out to their customers lying to them stating the strike is about language the Union is seeking.
Sysco, stop blaming the Union and withdrawal your contested proposals! Teamsters Local 848 has already accepted your final offer without the proposed language and are eager to put this issue behind us and get back to work.
Sincerely,
Eric Tate
Secretary Treasurer
