Press Release

LOS ANGELES/LONG BEACH HARBOR LABOR COALITION INVITES ALL WORKING PEOPLE TO JOIN US ON LABOR DAY MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2012

JOIN THE FIGHT FOR WORKERS’ RIGHTS:

Wilmington, CA:  On Monday, September 3, 2012, thousands of union members, their families, supporters, and friends will come together for the 33rd Annual Harbor Labor Day March, Rally and BBQ.

This event is sponsored by the Los Angeles/Long Beach Harbor Labor Coalition.  The event will feature the annual march along Avalon Boulevard followed by a 12 p.m. program at historical Banning Park.  The program will include free food, soft drinks, music, informational booths, and speakers from many unions.  The parade march begins at  10 a.m. at the corners of Broad and “E” Streets in Wilmington (marchers will assemble at 8 a.m).  Shuttle buses will be available between the assembly site and Banning Park located on Pacific Coast Highway in Wilmington, California.

Traditionally, the parade organizers do not allow elected officials to speak at the rally.  Coalition members believe that this is a day for union members to be heard and those we elect to listen.  We are marching in solidarity for all basic union rights and benefits.  This year, however, we are engaged in our third battle to defeat the anti-union ballot initiative, “Campaign Finance Reform,” another name for worker paycheck deception!  The right-to-work corporate machine ends here in California!   We unite in solidarity on Labor Day in support of the rights of workers here and abroad.  We demand protection of all civil rights and liberties for those workers who cannot.

Our basic rights are being eroded at an alarming rate by corporate and political special interests while creating fear and uncertainty for workers and their families.  Join us on Labor Day!
